Location, location, location!
I currently live in Mammoth Lakes, CA in the glorious eastern Sierra. I recently lived in the Smoky Mountains of Western North Carolina for four years. I grew up in the Berkshire Hills in western Mass. I learned to ski in Crested Butte Colorado. I’ve lived in mountains all my life and LOVE me some mountain wedding inspiration.
Two Weddings?
Yep, we had two weddings, one on each coast. Not all of our immediate family could make it to either the west coast or the east coast. It was important to have our parents with us so we went to them. We had a small ski-inspired Justice-of-the-Peace wedding on March 3rd, 2009 with 17 of our closest friends, and we had a larger, more traditional wedding ceremony in North Carolina on May 23rd, 2009.
A $5000 wedding!?
Yep again. We spend a total of $5000 on both weddings.
So what exactly is a mountain bride?
The short answer: she’s a bride who gets married in the mountains. The longer answer is she tends to have a deep connection with the mountains, either because she’s lived in them, or she’s been visiting them, or she’s just called to them. While some of us gravitate towards more organic and natural wedding details, not all of us do! Mountain brides can be glamorous, crafty, artsy, or classic “princess” brides. They can throw a grand ballroom wedding in a fancy hotel or host a down-home BBQ in their parent’s back yard. Basically, mountain brides are as varied as any other bride. The biggest difference is that we get married in the prettiest places in the world. Bawk if you will, but I’m firmly standing behind that statement!
