Not everyone is a cake person, and many venues and catering companies make delicious deserts that are more appealing to some than is cake. But cake is such a traditional symbol of a wedding.

Geek Week Four
The one, the only, the ever popular XKCD inspired wedding cake, based on the "webcomic of romance, sarcasm, math and language. I would love to have something like this at my wedding, but I fear I may not be smart enough ;-)

Bride and groom robots top the wedding cake of an Oklahoma geek chic wedding featured on Style Me Pretty

Remember those amazingly romantic wedding cakes I featured a couple of months ago? Well, I just saw over on the Ritzy Bee Blog that the bakery, Maggie Austin Cake is a finalist on the Today Show's Wedding for Melissa and Jeremy. I would love to see Maggie win!

I just got the newest adition of The Brides Book in the mail. (Thanks Lenore!) Anyway, I am completely blown away by these peacock inspired cakes in the Charleston section! Take a close look my friends. The colorful pieces of the inside of this cake look lightly frosted inbetween them, which means a lot of hand crafting by the talented Kelly Holder from U Designs Event Planning. Brie LeBret, also from U Designs Event Planning, photographed this the inspiration shoot.

Oh D.C. brides aren't you a bunch of lucky ducks!
When I stumbled across this cake over on Little Lovely I nearly fell out of my chair. It is wonderfully romantic and charming, yet insanely elegant. When I clicked over to Maggie Austin Cake to see the rest of the portfolio I couldn't believe the eye candy! These cakes in part invoke old fashioned cakes frosted into swirls with a butter knife. Yet the architecture and design are artfully precise and controlled. As one might expect with any piece of art, these cakes do not come cheaply. Prices start at $10 per slice, based on the intricacy of the design. I say these cakes alone are good reason to reduce that guest list!
