We Will Miss you Sarah!!!

I am not in the habit of writing obituaries or memorials on this blog, but I’m so shaken up over Sarah Burke’s death that it would feel wrong for me not to. I think other mountain brides, especially western mountain bride who ski will remember Burke as the powerhouse free skier who dominated the superpipe, who lobbied early on for the inclusion of female athletes in the X games. Burke went on to become an X Games champion. Most recently, she successfully lobbied the Winter Olympic Committee to include the super pipe in the 2014 Winter Olympics. Beautiful, easy-going, and one of the best skiers ever (male or female) I will remember Sarah for paving the way for other female athletes to compete in top tier competitions and pushing the envelope in freestyle skiing.

All the pretty snow, the gorgeous burgundy and gold details, and the classically elegant bride and groom make me so happy on this cloudy morning as the Eastern Sierra waits for a long over due snow storm. And that ski guest book is the best. By far my all-time favorite mountain wedding detail!

The Only Mountain Wedding Mag, Really
You know how grandpa always says, “When I was a boy I had to walk to school, alone, through 10 feet of snow, uphill, both ways!” Yeah, well I find myself saying, “When I was planning my wedding … blogs didn’t cover mountain weddings, and a Google search for the term yielded crappy keyword stuffed sites. Today’s mountain brides are lucky indeed to have the likes of Brides Magazine and Style Me Pretty publishing mountain weddings fairly frequently. Then there’s the Rocky Mountain Bride, Colorado Couture, Lux Mountain Weddings, and yours truly, all of whom publish gads of mountain weddings.

Speaking of Luxe Mountain Weddings, they have a brand new print magazine out. Seriously, it’s the first of it’s kind, covering mountain weddings from British Colombia to Asheville. Nearly every mountain region is represented. (Vermont you need to get with the program and submit. They’re on Two Bright Lights)

Not only are Kristell and Dominique a beautiful couple, they’re my kind of people. Any girl who is equally at home on skis as she is rockin’ the pink jeans is a girl after my own heart. But wait, she also looks dreamy on Dominique’s arm in a white summer dress. But seriously, back to the skis. This couple reminds me of the Hindsight Grrom and me. We can never wait for winter to come. Hell, there’s no snow in the eastern Sierra so we can’t ski on our new skis, but that doesn’t stop us from “trying them on” in the living room several times a week.
