You’ve Seen the Signs, But This Is Different

Look closely. That isn’t your typical wooden sign pointing to the reception and ceremony. Those signs show how far away this couple’s first kiss was, and when they changed their relationship status on Facebook, and where their first apartment was. So adorable!

Barnwood and Lemonade Wedding Inspiration

It’s the first inspiration board of the year on Hindsight Bride. w00t! Now don’t FREAK OUT when you see some of the details. This is not a product catalog, it’s an inspiration board. No, you don’t have to find a vintage wooden candy cart or an old wagon. If you happen to have one laying around, great. Otherwise, look at the textures and colors. Look for a unifying theme.

5 under $5 | Guest Favors That Won’t Get Left Behind

It’s the day after Thanksgiving, or, Black Friday, as it’s know in American retail parlance. According to the Wikipedia, Black Friday is named so because there’s so much shopping going on that retailers are “in the black,” in other words not “in the red.” OK, profitable. Time to shop? Maybe. But I often find this official start of the holiday season to be stressful.

Black Friday at Macys

One I tried to stop the spending extravaganza by asking friends and family not to exchange gifts with me. My suggestion was met with vehement resistance. Another year, when asked what I wanted for Christmas, I listed three charities I wanted donations to be made to in my name. This was met with even more resistance. I want to get YOU a gift was the reply. Never mind that I didn’t WANT a gift.

Foodie Wedding Escort Cards | Steal this Idea

Even the newest of foodies knows that al dente  means “to the tooth” in Italian and is generally used to describe when pasta is perfectly done: mostly soft but a bit firm and chewy on the inside. I cannot think of a more perfect escort card or place setting, especially for a foodie couple, than one make from forks.

How to use styled shoot ideas

Styled shoots can be confusing. Typically they are very small, highly curated photo shoots with lots of details that would be difficult to replicate on a grand scale, say for two to three hundred of your beloved wedding guests. There’s been a bit of criticism flying around for years about styled shoots. Back in 2009 the Eastside Bride  claimed, Your Wedding is Not a Photoshoot, and went on to criticize styled shoots saying:

Here’s my advice from the other side: unpretentious, real wedding photos will always be cooler than the slick facsimiles. Don’t let those stylists give you a complex…And don’t let em overstyle your wedding. What if it were the other way round and someone mistook your wedding for a magazine shoot? Barf.

OK, duly noted. But still, if you’re like me, and you like nifty details that say something about you, your partner, your family, and your life, then styled shoots can be useful for generating ideas. The trick is to understand that they are not for replicating, they are for inspiring.

So here are a few ideas to get you going from this Little Red Riding Hood woodland style shoot I spotted over on Cake Ink. Take a look and scroll down for ideas.
