Guest Post on A Mountain Bride:
What I'm Glad I Did!
I am so flattered Jes asked me to join the company of such a fantastic pool of guest bloggers on A Mountain Bride. For those of you who are new to A Mountain Bride, Jes graduated with her Ph.D., got married in the beautiful mountains of Flagstaff, and is moving across the country from AZ to NY (all within 3 weeks!) Please check out not only Jes's blog (and my post) but also the fantastic guest posts from real brides who have shared their stories and dished up plenty of hindsight advice these past couple of weeks!

DIY-ing a wedding is sorta like childbirth (I’m assuming.) It’s a lot of pain and hard work, but once you see the beautiful results of your labor, it seems all worth it. At least that’s how I felt after our May 2009 wedding.
Anniversary Photo Shoot Recap: Changing thoughts on Wedding DIY
Note: I do not have Anniversary pictures to post on the blog yet, but when I do…yipppeeeee!!!!!

Create Unique DIY Save the Date postcards with Wordle
We were going to mail these cute little Save the Date cards for our Memorial Day wedding last year. We ended up using, well…nothing. Big mistake! In hindsight I wish we had sent them out. Many of our guests had already made travel plans for the holiday weekend long before our invitations went out. Had we done Save the Date postcards, important family and friends may have been able to attend.
These unique DIY save the date postcards inspire the geek in me. Oh, and they're also easy, inexpensive, and super cute. Below is a Save the Date mock-up for our wedding using Wordle.

Lemon Curd is Easy to Make and Boucoup Flavorful

If you've not yet heard, the hindsight groom and I are preparing for a one-year anniversary photo shoot. Our wedding photos, shot by a local photography student, were horrible. So we have hired professional photographers to do an anniversary shoot at the NC Arboretum this week.
Unlike a normal anniversary (or engagement) shoot, this one will be a mini re-creation of our handmade wedding, including a small DIY wedding cake. We served a white cake with lemon curd and fresh raspberry filling, topped with Swiss Buttercream. I learned how to make this rich, but no-so-sweet buttercream on Smitten Kitchen's blog. Check out Project Wedding Cake for recipes and musings.

It's All about the Fonts Baby!
Are you doing DIYing your wedding invitations and paper elements? Do you agree that default scripty fonts that come stock with Word are, well, boooooooooring. I mean, there are certain fonts I've seen so many times that, when I see them, I say, "oh, there's the Papyrus font," or "oh, Brush Script." But hey, what are you going to do if your resources are limited? You are going to check out DaFont.com for free fonts.
Hindsight Groom and I designed the invitations and paper elements for both weddings. Luckily we found DaFont.com Here is a picture of our California ski wedding invitation using Chocolate Box font.
